A content managment system is an online tool for setting up and managing your website, and is sometimes referred to as aa "data-driven web site" as oppsoed to a "static site".

Individual pages and other content on the site are stored in a database and presented to the visitor as normal web pages.

Pros

  • Easy to update once you have basic structure
  • Accessibility is built in (to the best ones)
  • Focus on content, not technology
  • Many people in organisation can update

Cons

  • More expensive to build initially
  • Most pages will be same format.
  • To make major changes, you'll need to find some
  • Hosting will be a little more expensive.
  • May incur licence costs if the system isn't "open source"
