Worthing Council for Voluntary Service

WCVS
An informative and user-friendly resource for the community and voluntary sector.

About WCVS

WCVS support the growth of the community and voluntary sector, offering a range of services including information sessions, one-to-one advice, and training whilst sustaining a wide network of groups and organisations.

The brief

WCVS needed to house a wealth of information of great value to the local community. They needed a website that would act as a resource and toolkit for voluntary groups.

WCVS wanted a website that:

  • Would be easy to use and accessible
  • Provide important information, including their database of local groups
  • Would aid communication between clients and partners
  • Could be updated easily
  • Had training built in as part of the overall site development package

In addition, the site would:

  • Allow users to leave feedback on services
  • Allow services to post their own events to listings

SCIP’s solution

Understanding how to translate the knowledge and expertise held by WCVS into engaging and informative online content was crucial.

Our web communications workshop helped identify the needs or potetnial visitors to the site. This helped to create the structure, features and content which is most relevant and of benefit to community and voluntary groups.

Their Access database was amended to allow easy upload to the site, providing a categorised and searchable database of groups

Other features include a community events page which allows groups to add their own events and lets Worthing CVS keep tabs on current activity in the local community.

Training

SCIP provided content management training for members of staff who now update the site ensuring it remains current. The Chief Officers blog allows for greater connection with clients, something that Worthing CVS felt was lacking from their previous website.

Usability Testing and feedback

Before going live, we carried out some informal usability training. Amazingly, the were no new issues identified with the site and it was finally launched in November 2010.
