Virtual Festival
SCIP ran the annual Brighton & Hove Virtual Festival from 1998 to 2005. It included a series of public events that helped raise awareness of what computers and the Internet are being used for in the local community. Every year was different and tried to capture the latest trends and ideas and make them more accessible.
In the early days the festival focussed on larger public events that offered free Internet access at a time when it was uncommon. It then started to become more focused on particular uses of the new technologies and took the form of smaller public events, taster sessions and workshops.
Examples of festival activities include text message haiku written by local schoolchildren, training sessions and Internet access at the beach.
