The Big Issue

Working with the Big Issue

SCIP worked with the Big Issue for five years to provide vendors with access to computers and the Internet. They used email to keep in touch, surfed the web for jobs and pleasure, learned through UK Online, and were taught new skills in website design, desktop publishing and graphic design, and digital video and music production. The Big Issue started its IT-based work in Brighton, after an approach from SCIP in 1999, and then extended its work into centres elsewhere in the UK.

Big Issue has now closed its Brighton office but SCIP continues to work with homeless people through other local agencies. Most recently this included a photography project with users of First Base day centre.
