SCIP Community Projects
As well delivering IT support services and training SCIP also works on a range of innovative community projects, helping to tackle disadvantage and close the digital divide. We typically work in partnership with other organisations from different parts of the community on projects such as:
- Developing IT-related skills with people from marginalised communities
- Using computers and the internet to help engage with hard to reach communities
- Setting up and running drop in facilities and informal learning activities
- Increasing the quality and availability of community information
- research-related projects exploring new ideas
- Project management and community development
- Networking and relationships with a range of individuals and organisations around the world.
Current projects include
- IT Training for VCOs in partnership with Working Together Project and funded by The Big Lottery Fund
- Regional ICT Champion funded by Capacity Builders
- IT Support for small independent museums funded by MLA-SE
- Support for Groups Website Development project funded by Capacity Builders
- Netweight Project in partnership with University of Brighton and funded by Department of Health
- Brighton & Hove Web Awards/Brighton Digital Media Awards in partnership with Wired Sussex
- Brighton & Hove Issues Forum
Recent projects include
- TWIG: Internet access in Tarner in partnership with the Friends Centre, Brighton and funded by UK Online
- theplacetobe.net in partnership with various local information providers and funded by Invest to Save e-Gov funding
- Community Network Analysis Project in partnership with University of Brighton and funded by ESRC
