2. Brighton & Hove Rocks - the event
Naomi Alexander outlined the programme and methodology taken during the day, which is all outlined in the Report itself. She also outlined the organising groups thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of the event. The group then watched the video of the day, in order to get a flavour of the event.

3. Responses to report and video
The group then brainstormed their initial thoughts and feelings on the video and logged these in the balloon and rocks. The rocks represented concerns, fear, anxieties and the balloon expressed peoples hopes, positive feelings about the Report and the event as a whole. The diagram is attached.

4. Agreeing how to co-ordinate a response
The group then discussed 2 of the top priorities identified in the Report as policy and community initiatives, bringing up a number of different questions

  1. What does it mean to us - unpacking?

  2. Which body or partnership does this affect?

  3. Who could co-ordinate?

  4. What practical action needs to happen?

The groups generated a few thoughts on these issues. These are recorded in the attachments. It became clear during the next discussion that a decision on the type of action required needed to be discussed with those involved in the group. It also became clear that the priorities needed to be re-checked with those who were invited and a broader section of the community.

5. Action
The group agreed that the Brighton & Hove Rocks Event had been a useful, stimulating and exciting event.

The group agreed to continue to develop this dialogue started by this process further by:

  • developing with the community a more meaningful understanding of the issues and actions required by all

  • asking the community whether these priorities reflect their own priorities

  • identifying with the community mechanisms for involvement in service delivery and planning

The group agreed to consider the recommendations within their own organisations and feed back these discussions to the next meeting of this group.

  • To consider at the next meeting how to co-ordinate a more comprehensive response

  • To send the notes of this meeting to the Brighton & Hove Rocks participants
