SO WHAT CAN I OFFER?
You don't have to be a super computer whizz to help out.
Some charities want someone to do something highly technical that they can't afford to pay for, but many want an extra pair of hands to help get things running smoothly.
So you may be asked to install software or show someone how to use a word processor. You could be tweaking an existing web site or helping to devise a whole new web site from scratch, working with a team of volunteers and staff.
These are the sorts of things we get asked for by local groups:
- Web design
- Desk top publishing
- Technical support
- Word processing, spreadsheets and similar office applications
- Music and games
- Training staff and volunteers
- General help with computers and IT
The application form will ask you to identify whether you are beginner, intermediate or advanced level, with some ideas about what we mean by each of those. We can then match your level of skills and experience with the organistions that have asked for help.
What commitment is needed?
The specific hours needed will vary according to the organisation concerned, but when you sign up we'll ask about your availability - daytime, evening, etc - and try to match you up with appropriate organisations.
Some will want someone to come in during the day, others may be entirely voluntary and be meeting up in the evenings. Some will be a bit of both.
Use the sign up form to tell us what your needs are and we'll try to meet them.
