Why I love the SCIP list

There are about 1,000 people currently subscribed to our email discussion forum, but who are they and what do they get out of it?  Every month we ask one of its members why they love the SCIP list… This month we hear from Nicky Cambridge, People and Places Coordinator, Communities and Equalities Team, Brighton and Hove City Council.

What's the best thing about being on the SCIP list?

The best thing about the SCIP list is the incredible amount of information and knowledge that can be gained - both personal and professional. It is an easy way to communicate to lots of like-minded people and networks in the city.

One thing you've learned by being on the SCIP list.

I have learnt about the amazing range of activity in the city. I have also developed a sense of pride in how many individuals, groups and organisations there are that aim to improve the quality of life for the people of Brighton and Hove.

What do you think would improve the SCIP list?

I can only imagine that to improve the list would be to ensure many more people are using it from communities and public sector organisations all over the city. It may be a good idea to consider discussion or themed groups - developing communities of practice as a result. Other improvements may include an easy way to invite others to join and a way to ensure neighbourhood groups are linked in - they tend not to know about these types of groups.

Nicky has been a member of the SCIP list for approximately 18 months.

Did you know that the SCIP discussion list is one of the oldest forums of its type in the world? We set it up in 1996 and since then thousands of people have used it for sharing events, opportunities and all sorts of information of community interest.

It’s an email-based network that is free to join. Members can post news, requests for help and share ideas with people from the not for profit sector in Sussex and beyond.
