Why I love the SCIP list
There are about 1,000 people currently subscribed to our email discussion forum, but who are they and what do they get out of it? Every month we ask one of its members why they love the SCIP list… This month we hear from Ellie Talebian, Training Administrator at Safety Net and Youth Group Leader at Woodcraft Folk.

What's the best thing about being on the SCIP list?
Having moved to Safety Net from an extremely corporate background (apart from my volunteering work) I find SCIP extremely affirming of all the weird and wonderful things going on in the community, I love knowing about all the opportunities available in the area for children that I can then forward onto the parents that I work with at the Woodcraft Folk.
One thing you've learned by being on the SCIP list.
As mentioned above really, it is really nice continually learning about all of the work being carried out by various different projects in the community and making useful contacts.
What do you think would improve the SCIP list?
Categorising the emails a bit more?! E.g. sending through all emails relating to training opportunities / job opportunities in bulk, although I appreciate that this may be difficult to achieve, thus giving people more freedom to access the information that they want to access (or is this something that can be changed in settings)?
Did you know that the SCIP discussion list is one of the oldest forums of its type in the world? We set it up in 1996 and since then thousands of people have used it for sharing events, opportunities and all sorts of information of community interest.
It’s an email-based network that is free to join. Members can post news, requests for help and share ideas with people from the not for profit sector in Sussex and beyond.
