SCIP's Cunning Tip: Word 2007 file compatibility

Do you have difficulty opening Word 2007 files in Word 2003? David Guthrie runs through some useful advice in the first instalment of SCIP’s cunning tips.

There is a free download available from Microsoft that will allow you to open 2007 files.  Go to http://bit.ly/1Sn5mJ - it’s very straightforward to install, but always read the instructions!

If you’re using Word 2007, it is good practice to save documents in the Word 97-2003 Compatibility version if you think that they will go to people with older versions of Word (which is often the case).  Use Save As then select Word 97-2003 version. If you find that you are saving the majority of your files in the compatible version, then consider setting your default Save options.
