Important information for Windows XP users
SCIP’s Technical Support manager Andy Fairhall has warned organisations to be aware that Microsoft have just announced that Windows XP will be unsupported after April 2014.
While it will still work, the news means Microsoft will not deliver any further changes or updates which keep the programme secure and functioning efficiently.
It means organisations using this software need to budget for changes in this financial year or the following one.
Andy says;”Windows XP will continue to work but there will not be any further security updates which could leave your computers vulnerable to attack.
“My advice is to upgrade to Windows 7 or the most up-to-date package in the next two years. Alternatively, be aware of the changes and budget for new computers to be introduced by April 2014.
“Remember some older computers will not be able to run the more modern software packages. A good rule of thumb is that if you are using Windows XP and your computers are over five years old now, you are likely to need new ones by 2014.
“This is not a reason to panic; we just want to warn our customers, so that they can be aware of likely costs and prepare for them in advance.”
