Free computers and internet access for children in lower income households with no internet access and Get Connected funding for organisations and charities working in adult social care.
Home Access
At the start of 2010, the government launched Home Access, a scheme giving away free web access and laptops grants aimed at lower income families in England without internet access. The scheme closed on 10th August, however, 10,000 grants remain unclaimed. Home Access is now operating a ‘first come first served’ policy for applicants. Grants are available per household with children in school years 3 to 9. Depending on your need you can receive up to £528 to spend on a laptop and one year’s internet access.

Get Connected
SCIP is now an approved supplier of computer equipment, support and training for the Get Connected scheme that funds providers of care for adults in England to offer IT access to their staff and clients. Grants of up to £20,000 are currently available, but the next cycle of expressions of interest of the fund closes at midnight on 10TH September.
The fund is for capital expenditure on IT equipment and software for private and voluntary sector adult social care services and providers. The next cycle will open in November 2010. There are slightly different eligibility criteria for each cycle, so check carefully.
All bids must cover one or both of these objectives:
- improving access by people who use services, carers and staff to ICT to enhance the quality of life offered within the service and/or
- improving access by people who use services, carers or staff to ICT that will support their learning, training and development.

Race Online
Race Online 2012 is Government funded but independent, set up by Martha Lane Fox to support her work as the UK Digital Champion. There are 10 million adults in the UK who have never used the internet and four million of those are among the most disadvantages. Race 2010 aim to “inspire, encourage and support millions more people online by the end of the Olympic year 2012 through partnership with government, industry, charities and individuals.”
Race 2010 are partnering up with organisations up and down the country to form an allegiance working towards a “truly networked nation.”
