Bargains beckon as chips change

If you think you may need a new computer in the next couple of months now could be a good time to buy, as suppliers clear out laptops and PCs to make way for models that use a newer faster Intel chip that was launched this summer. Some of the best bargains include high spec laptops for less than £400 including VAT.
"Right now we could supply a good quality Toshiba 15-inch laptop, with 4GB memory, 320GB hard drive and the pro version of Windows 7 for just £375, including VAT," explains Andy Fairhall, who manages SCIP's Technical Support service.
"This is an £80 saving over the cheapest model that uses the new chip and is more than enough for most of our clients. There are a few of these bargains around but the numbers are limited so we suggest people get in touch as soon as possible to see what we can do for them."
As Andy explains, the PC industry relies on a continual process of upgrade and replacement. "It often seems that software and hardware companies have done a deal and someone is always telling you that you need the latest upgrade. The only upside to this cycle is that as manufacturers move onto new specifications there is a time when the old stock drops in price, which is happening now with PCs and computers that use an Intel Core 2 Duo chip."
Andy has already sold six of these Toshiba laptops and has seen stock at the main supplier drop from 1500 to 1200 in little more than a week. "When shops and other suppliers spot this drop they will often dive in and grab a bargain. We only order what people need so we advise anyone thinking of getting a new PC or laptop to call us now before the stocks run out."
