Mentoring

We're all grappling with new ideas and new ways of working but we don't always have a chance to look at the bigger picture, or we want someone to talk through a problem with before deciding what to do.

SCIP sees mentoring as a key tool of empowerment. We can provide a one-off sessions as a short term way of tackling specific issues or ongoing one-to-one support through a particular project.

This could include someone setting up an IT drop-in service in a community centre, a person starting to work with a group of volunteers on a new website, or a UK Online Centre looking at ways of developing its training programme.

Mark Walker is the most experienced mentor in our team. A founder of SCIP and well-known in national community IT circles, Mark is currently a mentor and accredited workshop facilitator for three net:gain centres, a national programme developing IT services through UK Online Centres. In the past he has worked as a mentor with staff from a wide range of organisations, including the Big Issue, Brunswick Older People's Project and Brighton Young People's Centre.

Other members of staff have also provided ongoing one-to-one support and mentoring in a number of settings and bring specific specialist knowledge relating to community uses of IT. All can provide regular one-to-one sessions, or less structured support via telephone, email and face-to-face meetings.

Charges are based on a fee of £40 an hour, usually exempt from VAT. For more details please use the contact form on the site or call Mark Walker on 01273 234049.
