So what is Digital Inclusion?
Digital inclusion and digital engagement are the lastest buzzwords for ministers, policy-makers and consultants in the public, private and third sectors. But what exactly is the goal? What is already happening? And how does it connect with existing work in delivering social inclusion?
SCIP hosted a Fringe event at the Labour Party Conference in Brighton in September 2009 to bring together policy-makers and practitioners to look at where we are now and how we can move ahead.

What are we trying to achieve?
I enjoyed the opportunity to reflect on more than ten years of SCIP's work trying to understand digital inclusion. Our ultimate goal has remained social inclusion in local communities ie helping people feel part of the community around them.
We are trying to tackle the disadvantages and inequalities that can lead to isolation and social and economic exclusion for individuals and communities. We are working with others to understand how technology may help achieve those changes.
Although I mentioned a lot about social inclusion and community development on the night I think we lapsed too easily into a discussion about technology stuff. I want to emphasise my view that to achieve digital inclusion we need to be working with people who understand and can successfully deliver social inclusion.
